A ceilidh is a great choice for a mixed group of people of any age and dance ability. Longdogs' music is lively and exciting and the dancing is suitable for everyone from beginners to experts!
Dan, Pete and Di are all gifted musicians with masses of experience who adapt to the flow of the evening making sure everyone has a good time.
Pete takes the melody lead on fiddle, and along with Dan, organises the PA so the band sound is always clear and just the right volume!
Dan is our vocalist as well as mandocello player who’s unique rhythmical style perfectly compliments Pete's spirited fiddle tunes.
Di plays cello as well as the band's Dance Caller. She is naturally humorous and enthusiastic in her approach to ceilidh calling and has gained a reputation for persuading even the most reluctant of guests to have a go!
Longdogs' repertoire is varied encompassing tunes and songs from early music right through to modern self-penned compositions. Not content with just traditional tunes they also find material from further afield - Venezuela, Brittany, America, Finland etc. etc.
Over the years, Longdogs Ceilidh Band have discovered a few things about what makes for a great ceilidh….
It’s best to perform two or three dances in a row, then have a couple of minutes break, then go again with another 2 or 3 dances and so on until energy levels begin to fall or time runs out!!
It’s a good idea to take a mid-way break of about 30 minutes. Longdogs Ceilidh Band are happy to play recorded music during the break to keep the atmosphere going.
Di – Longdogs' caller – ‘calls’ with great enthusiasm and good humour walking the dancers through the whole dance before any music starts, calling the next steps in good time throughout. There is always a balanced mixture of traditional and non-traditional ceilidh dances, all with fun elements to enjoy!
Longdogs Ceilidh Band set up, and break-down, discreetly, in about 60 minutes. It may be possible for the PA to be left in place for your use after the ceilidh providing this is pre-arranged at the time of booking – a separate fee is chargeable for this service.

The Long Dogs are a great ceilidh band. The music is fabulous, the calling spot on and the dancing lively. They were super friendly too. A thoroughly enjoyable evening was had by us all.

Long Dogs Ceilidh Band Review: An Evening to Remember at the Barn Dance Long Dogs truly added a distinct flavour to the evening. Their energy was infectious, setting the perfect tone for a barn dance shindig. Kudos for being punctual, adaptable, and easy to work with – those qualities are gold in event planning. The musicality? Undeniable. Long Dogs Ceilidh Band knew how to keep the tunes flowing, and their choice of dances was well thought out. Their caller made it a cinch for everyone to participate, regardless of their dance floor prowess. We had all ages dancing on the floor from aged 3 to people in their 80s. The dances were all about fun and inclusion and it was a major hit with all who were there. The children loved it, and the dancing went well into the night. A hat tip to the band for their efficient setup and discreet disassembly – it kept the rhythm of the evening intact. On the budget front, I must say, Long Dogs provides quite the bang for your buck. Quality entertainment that doesn't drain your wallet – a rare find these days. To the Long Dogs Ceilidh Band, you made the barn dance an affair to remember. Looking forward to witnessing your future gigs.

I had the Long Dog Ceilidh Band play for my 60th birthday. Dan and Pete are superb musicians and everyone loved having live music to listen to and to dance to. Diana was a brilliant caller for the dances and played her cello in the interval to make up a trio. They also had background music while we were eating which was very pleasant. They really are terrific and I would highly recommend them as a first class band.
